FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here at Screen Works, communication key. If at any moment you have a question about what we do here or anything about your order, please feel free to call the shop.

What is Screen Printing?
Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A roller or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the open areas. Screen printing is also a stencil method of printmaking in which a design is imposed on a screen of silk or other fine mesh, with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance, and ink is forced through the mesh onto the printing surface. It is also known as "silk screening" or "serigraphy".

What is Embroidery?
Imagine taking your logo and transforming them into stitches! The saying in our shop is, "If we can hoop it, we can embroider it." Most soft items can be embroidered and the result is a beautifully textured design.

What is Digital Printing?
The digital printer uses a CMYK process where it can print everything from a one color logo to a full color photo. The print is virtually weightless and is perfect for lightweight garments and athletic teams wearing T-shirts (no more heavy or sticky prints on your skin). Designs printed by the digital printer will gently fade into your garment as the garment wears down. We like to say that it “lasts the life of the garment". The only downside of this printing process is that the ink is not opaque enough to be printed on dark colored garments. This process does NOT use white ink, much like your printer at home. Any white in the design will “drop through” to the garment.

I’ve order with you in the past. Do you still have my films?
Screen works keeps your films on file for as long as you are with us.

Do you do heat transfers/vinyl lettering?
No, we do not. However, we can refer you to another local business that does!

Do you make patches?
All embroidery at Screen Works is direct to garment. We can refer you to another local business that specializes in patches.

What is an art fee?
An art fee is charged when our in house graphic designer has to redraw, re-format, or create new artwork for you. If there is an issue with your logo, we will contact you BEFORE we do anything to it. As of 2014, we charge $1 per minute.

What if I don't have a logo?
Our in house designer is happy to work with you to realize your vision

What format should I submit my logo?
For screen printing Adobe Photoshop .PSD and Adobe Illustrator .AI files work best as they can easily be adjusted. For the purposes of embroidery or digital printing, we prefer a .JPG at 300dpi. We also accept .TIFF,. EPS, .GIF and .PDF formats.

Will I see what my order looks like before it goes into production?

What garments are best?
100% cottons are best for digital and screen printing. However, we can print almost anything! Nylon, vinyl, mesh, lycra or heavily insulated multi layered outerwear do not work well.

I want my order done in a few days. Can this be done?
Screen Works does its best to accommodate our customers. However, during busy season we aren’t able to accommodate requests as there are existing production deadlines. We encourage customers to plan their projects in advance. Customers can opt for a Rush Fee during this time.
